Hosts

Demi and Ed,

HUSBAND & WIFE PARTNERS of 45yrs,

''Having the time of our life, il tempo della nostra vita,' once we decided to open a B&B''

Like many families, when the kids go off to university and move away from home, you slowly find yourselves contemplating the next stage of your life. My husband, Ed and I were in that same position a few years ago. I was working part-time in a medical office and Ed was finishing up a 10 yr contract with Education in the Automotive Industry. The question became how could we achieve quality time together, own our own business, afford to travel more and still be close by to watch our grand-kids as they grow up.  After some soul searching  the possibility was in operating a bed & breakfast.

Niagara is a great destination

Queen Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake

For years, Ed and I had traveled to the Niagara Region and knew how it was a great getaway for friends and family. The historical and picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-lake became our focus as the right location to open a bed & breakfast. We carefully searched the real estate market, met with a agent, took a course on business management and started to learn all about operating a b&b. We looked for properties that would appeal to guests and also something we could call home especially when we had the whole family together. Taking a year to decide on the right property, we finally sold our home in Toronto, said goodbye to the old neighborhood and moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL) as the locals call it. We quickly settled into the next chapter of our lives.

Niagara-on-the-Lake offers

'something for everyone - qualcosa per tutti'.

The Niagara Region offers travelers the chance to experience fine foods and tour many of the regional 30+ wineries. The Shaw Festival and its 4 theatres offers great entertainment all within walking distance of our b&b. The Falls with its Casino's and attractions are just a short drive. Cycle along the shores of the Niagara River or spend the day walking around the historical town sampling the unique one-of-a-kind shops on Queen Street. All this is conveniently located from demi’s place b&b.

Read about local activities happening in and around town,

plan your visit around one of the many festivals or concerts

planned throughout the season, and when your ready to stay,

book your b&b at demi's place .

As your hosts, let us make every effort to exceed your expectations at the exact pace your desire. When you are our guests, feel free to relax after a busy day in NOTL in our backyard gazebo with a glass of wine, or enjoy the outdoor hot tub, and enjoy the quiet gardens.

Enjoy the wineries that surround us, by leaving the drive to a professional tour operator, they will pick you up and dropping you off right at our door. You might want to rent some bikes and explore the many bike trails Niagara has to offer. Then spend a relaxing afternoon popping in and out of the one-of-a-kind shops, sit at one of the many outdoor patios for lunch/dinner and relax with a glass of wine and watch the traffic go by. Visit The Shaw Festival which opens from April to October, and if you don’t already have tickets, drop by their box office and inquire about one of 10 plays in 3 theatres.

!! FAMILY UPDATE !!

For those who have followed us over the years here’s an update.

Like everyone else learning how to manage during a pandemic, we patiently waited out the time until we were fully vaccinated. We were able to salvage part of our summer season with limitations on guests and social distancing. By fall of '22 we were seeing the return of tourism to NOTL and the return of our regular guests.

As we continue to enjoy life in Niagara-on-the-Lake, spending more time with our family and friends, we are now looking forward to our 9th season of welcoming guests to demi's place. Hope we see you soon!

In the spring of 2021, right in the middle of Covid, our middle son and his wife and their 2yr old daughter moved back to Canada from Mexico where they had been living and working for the past 7 years. Also right in the middle of quarantine limitations, our youngest son and wife had their first baby, a girl. Our excitement continues as parents, the total count for our growing family is 13 . . . 8 adults . . . 5 grandkids (4 girls and 1 boy) . . . 2 dogs no cats and some fish and frogs. Ed and I feel blessed after 45 years of marriage to be celebrating birthdays and holidays with our grown children and their families. Life doesn't get any better than this.

Five reasons why we love living in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Bragging rights,

Things that bring joy to our life . . . living close to our 3 grown children and being around to watch our 5 grand kids as they grow up, working side by side in the kitchen as we prepare breakfast for our b&b guest, and lastly feeling blessed to be living in this beautiful town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and calling it home.

This is how we spend our free time.

July 2018

By-pass update

For those of you who know my husband Ed, you know that a little surgery isn't going to slow him down. After being diagnosed in July 2018 with heart problems,  Ed had quadrupedal by-pass surgery.

We shut down the B&B for a short time and then managed to open with the help of family and friends and alot of determination. Luckily after just 8 weeks recuperating Ed was back to helping me in the kitchen.

Ed was soon back to the gym and now has more energy then ever.

Ed and I feel truly blessed to have so many friends and family who offed their love and support over this very stressful time.
